Celebrating Earth Day at Home

Posted on

50 years ago, on April 22, people around the U.S. gathered to celebrate the first Earth Day. 20 million Americans took to the streets to demonstrate against the impacts of industrial development on our environment and to demand a cleaner, safer planet.

Earth Day looks a little different this year, but our commitment to a healthier planet hasn’t changed. Gathering in person might be out of the question but there are still ways you can celebrate at home.

5 Ideas for Celebrating Earth Day at Home

Spend Time Outside

Make sure that you spend some time in nature! You can enjoy some fresh air in your backyard or balcony. Going for a walk or run is also great! Be sure to take safety precautions and keep a 6ft distance from others. Spending time outdoors is good for your health and well-being.

Plant a Garden

There’s still time to do some gardening. You could plant some vegetables, or create a garden of native plants that bees and butterflies will love.

Learn to Compost

It’s always a great time to learn how to reduce the amount of household waste that goes to landfill. Set up composting in your backyard or apartment to reduce your household waste by up to 35%. Check out our Guide to Home Composting.

Shop Eco-friendly Small/Local Business

Local and small businesses need your support! Shopping at eco-friendly businesses is good for the planet, and your health. You can feel good that you’re contributing to the reduction of overall household waste, making the world a greener place to live. Check out our Instagram for featured eco-friendly brands!

Take Part in an Online Celebration

While in-person celebrations have been cancelled, you can still take part in a celebration online! Many organizations have scheduled digital concerts, webinars, and other activities.
